WCK Pole Secrets

Robert Chu, February 20th, 2008

Want to really master the pole?

All you have to do is master the 8 cardinal directions, horizontal/diagonal/vertical figure 8′s and thrusting.

Using the pole with the proper mechanics takes a lot of practice, but once you have that down, it’s just a matter of  drilling these three practices.

Firstly, imagine a big asterisk in front of you  and do all the pole motions with both hands while in a Ding Ji Ma.

Secondly, develop fluidity doing horizontal/diagonal/vertical figure 8′s - this will teach you to relax more.

Finally, set up multiple hanging targets or candles and thrust the pole at it.

Enjoy your training!

    Ah! My favourite subject!!

I like your apporach here Robert, although more common to certain Baat Gwa Gwan ideals. Again, an example of older metaphysical knowledge (8 Gate theory) being used within WCK to gain a more ‘complete’ understanding, something my Sigung was a great believer of imo.

What would your 6 1/2 Point Pole Form look like I wonder??

    Spencer,

Meet me at Seni in April, and I’ll show you.

I have studied the pole indepth and many variations of it. Form is fine, but application is better.

    I’ve seen a bit of your lineage’s 6.5 pole and 3.5 pole.

I have also studied Ba Gua pole and Yang Family Spear, in addition to Master Lui’s Fei Lung Fu Gwun system. Its not WCK, but certainly hass influenced my thinking over the years.

That would be a treat! You have always sounded well versed in the stick plays of Martial Arts, and I’ve heard that you like to specialize in this too, as I do (although my knowledge is limited to Lee Shing Family only I’m afraid)

I understand that you would have seen Uncle Gohs forms, which vary slightly to my own understanding. I’m also ‘known’ for trying to understand why we all refer to the pole as 6.5 or 6 and a half points as Man Sifu would only ever refer to this training as 6 point and half pole! Maybe you might have a better conversation with my Sifu about that one?!

Mind you, I could always share a few ‘practical’ plays if you wish and I’m sure my Sifu would be pleased to meet you.

Thanks for the invite! Looking forward to it…
