    Great clips!

Can anyone share with us what the content is?

    Hello,

Clip 1) Fung sifu teaching Gan Sao sticky hand. This is a form of sticky hand exercise. PSWC has a lot of sticky hand sets. This is not the proper platform for the wrist but the most common sticky practiced among schools. There are two “Gan’s”. One is a concept meaning to follow or listen to the hands. The other is the hand action.

Clip 2) Lazy demo of some solo sets and finishes off with some Taiji stuff.

I’ll try to find and post a cleaner demo of Fung Keung sifu.

    See ya!

Thanks Jim, but I saw this one a time ago (it’s been on Youtube for almost a year!)

Much cleaner though, with a little more in it than the second clip. I didn’t realize that you referred to this interactive set as ‘Gan Sao Sticky Hands’ too in Gulao, as you never mentioned it before. Very interesting as this is quite common in LSWC.

On the KFM Forum I mentioned how I have taught this set for development of our Inside/Outside bridges, but it only forms a small part of other partner drills.

I’d recommend you grab a copy of Joseph Lees DVD, as there are certain San Sau he shows that are very like the Fung Family methods I have seen to date. The connection is definately there IMO…

    Hello,

Gan Sao sticky Hands is what most are taught. Its the most common sticky type of exercise the Kulo family share but not the main platform.

Lee Shing was very lucky IMO. He got to study PSWC with Fung Sang sifu. Anyone else he had little chance to learn as much as he did about the art. Fung Sang sifu was one of the, if not the, most open Sifu to ever teach public. Fung Sang’s public system was to this day, IMO, one of the cleanest ever taught.

Fung Sang’s brother/student, Fung Ming, lives in town and we have discussed his brothers (families) art at his work a few times. He is a small guy and looks like Fung Sang.

Lee Shing stuff certainly has Kulo in it. He studies with a Fung and even tho he was creative with what he learned, as he was with his Yip art, there will no doubt be some similar stuff. Yes, this was an older clip but cleaner version. Hence why I posted it.

    Gotta run!

Superb info you offer here Jim, and credit to you for your research into the Gulao PSWC and Fung Family! I believe you are right about Lee Shing being very lucky to have learnt from Fung Sang.

Did you say Fung Ming lives in your hometown? Where is that?
Maybe you can ask him about Lee Shing for me, if it’s not too much trouble? Would he remember his name or any timeframes?

I am finding it so difficult to gather information on Lee Shings time in China and Hong Kong, and I recently heard that he was an accomplished ’sailor’ and may have served alongside the British during WWII! I’ll have to pay a visit to Canada one day, if the family will let me!!!

    Thanks again for the info.

    Hello,

Boston, USA is where you can find numerous Fung’s!!!! If you can find them hahaha. Thats the hard part. In Boston the Fung family have been here for many years. Outside of Kulo I cant find another location with as many Fung’s! Yet, they all train together and have no school. Fung Chu was trained by his uncle, GM Fung Chun, and Fung Ming was trained by his brother, Fung Sang. There is also Mui sifu, who was trained by Fung Chiu in Hong Kong. Fung Chiu also taught his son, Fung Jia Pay, in Kulo. Jia Pay is young. In his mid 30’s. My sifu is 60 now and in 2 years will no longer be active. He, Mui sifu, taught publically for 4-5 years back in the 70’s and then vanished from the scene for a long while. He only taught a couple of people privately but nothing extensive. In April 2001, I got him to come out and teach again and was his first disciple of the new generation. I have to run but hope this helps.

As for asking Ah Ming about Lee Shing? I have not seen him in a few years but maybe will look him up in the near future as I want to share some stuff with him so I need to visit sometime this year.

    Gotta run!

AGAIN! You lucky gent!!! You’ve had a great opportunity there, and your posts and promotions now make more sense to me.

The Lee Family settled in Eastern Canada. I’m in contact with Lee Shings grandaughter and I don’t think any of his family were interested in the Martial Arts while he was alive. I think they feel a bit estranged that a young westerner has so much interest in their family, but I am hoping to visit them one year with my Sifu. They too are very humble, and I’m still unsure if they actually like anyone talking of Lee Shing on the net. I try my best to be neutral and not shame anyone, but I know that sometimes I come across as a bit extreme or serious! We live and learn eh?

That’s some superb info you have there on the Fung Family and it’s great to see. Fung Ming may well be the same Fong Yee Min my Uncle Joe Lee talks of. Is he younger than Fung Sang? The second boy?? May explain a few things. He will definately remember Lee Shing if he helped his brother at the time (pre-1950)

How hard is it to find information on past Sifu like Lok Yiu and Ng Jung So!? I’ve contacted a few Jiu Wan guys (including Ti Lung!) but, like the Fungs, not everyone is out there on a commercial tip are they? A good way to teach, IMHO.

Keep up the reaearch and training. All is good…

Thanks but the guy Joseph is talking about has nothing to do with Ah Ming. Joseph claims “Only” Fong Yee Min learned the real secret Pin Sun Wing Chun from Wong Wah Sam and nobody else which of course is not at all accurate. He stated that he learned most of his PSWC from him and very little from Fung Sang which makes no sense especially since he was not from Ku Lo which means he would not have had access to training other than a public school.

Master Wong Wah Sam had 8 disciples. All were family and a few still alive aged 90 & 86! To be honest, this Fong Yee Min guy reminds me of Yip Man’s mysterious Leung Bik. Makes for a better story but never really had anything to do with his martial education (more likely).

The family would not have been trained in the public school when the outsiders were training. They train the same way today as they always have. With family in the home. Ah Ming is younger than his brother Fung Sang. Unless they discussed his public students in conversation, I doubt Lee Shing would come up in discussion. Just an opinion. Next time I go to see him I will try to remember to ask for you.

    Gotta run!

    Peace,
    JJR
