Yip Chun on Yip Man & Chu Chong Man

by News, January 13th, 2008

From DFL on the KFO Forums:

Q: Yip sifu, how are you? I am a WC student from USA, and I have some questions regarding your father, grandmaster Yip Man.
A: I’ll be happy to answer any questions. Have a seat.
Q: I read on the internet that your father was related to Chu Chung Man of Weng Chun. Is that true?
A: They were good friends.
Q: They say Chu Chung Man was Yip Man’s uncle.
A: No. They were not related, just good friends.
Q: Thank you for answering my question. I am going to put this on the internet to clarify the matter.
A: Yes.
Q: Thank you for your time.

2008 Lee Shing Family Gathering

by News, January 3rd, 2008

From TiFei on the forums:

In the New Year, I’m hoping to get together some members of the Lee Shing Wing Chun Family to discuss our teaching practices, future promotions and event diary for 2008.

Normally, and in the past, these meetings have always been held behind closed doors or by invite only, but next year I would like to try something different.

Now I don’t claim to be anything special and I never even got the chance to meet Lee Shing, but I do care about this relatively small and unique family of practitioners. I trained for a short while at Jun Mo under Sifu Joe Man in London and I have never looked back since. Other prominent teachers recognised today include Joseph Lee, Austin Goh, Simon Lau and Joseph Cheng.

Lee Shing Wing Chun is probably best described as a blend of Mainland Chinese (Gulao) and Hong Kong Wing Chun. But, as this method was originally taught by Lee Shing in London, we used to refer to it as simply Londoner Wing Chun!

If you would like to attend, or are genuinely interested in this branch of Wing Chun and would like to meet some of us ‘old skool’ characters, please just post here or message me privately.

Lee Shing Facebook Group

by News, January 3rd, 2008

From TiFei on the forums:

If anyone here is a member of Facebook, click the link below to access our online Group:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5646373803

“The first group on Facebook to offer information on one of the most influential Martial Arts Masters to set foot in the UK.

Lee Shing taught a unique style of Chinese Martial Arts, called Wing Chun. Born in Guangdong province in 1923, he was an early starter and an avid student of kung fu throughout his youth.

As he grew older, the West beckoned and he travelled to Hong Kong prior to leaving for England. It was here that he met with a fellow practitioner of Wing Chun, the legendary Yip Man; teacher of Bruce Lee.

Some of Lee Shing’s most well known students include Joseph Lee, Austin Goh, Joseph Cheng, Simon Lau, Joseph Man and the late Nigel Fan.

Lee Shing passed away in Canada, 1991.

If anyone can share information about this great teacher and inspirational character, or any of his Wing Chun students, please join me and help gather the history of…

“Lee Shing Wing Chun”

Look forward to seeing you there!

Alan Orr’s NHB Extreme Wing Chun Series Short Review

by News, December 30th, 2007

Review from WingChunKuen.com Forum member Shen:

So, the CSL Body Structure. Is it what I assumed it was, from my own Wing Chun experience? No, not at all. The methods of using the body are completely different to most systems I’ve seen or the systems I’ve trained in. It’s easy to second guess what this or that is but until you have it explained to you, in depth, you don’t really get how it can be so different or appreciate it for what it is.

Briefly, the entire set of DVDs have deep explanations and practical examples throughout. The various training methods covered are all made accessible through drills, that you can take from the DVDs and practise. These drills can be practised from a passive (intro) level right up to how they respond in fighting. So there’s a wealth of stuff to train. Some areas expanded on what I’d already trained, to a point, where they made more sense and I could see how I’d actually apply them in a real fight against someone who can ACTUALLY fight.

Read the whole thing, take the poll, and engage in the thread…
